Miscellaneous homebrew rules
Some skill checks may require you to use a specific tool or enable you to use a tool to improve your chance at success. If you are proficient with the tool, you may add your proficiency bonus to the roll. This stacks with other bonuses, including skill bonuses that are already boosted by proficiency. For example, if you want to pick a lock and are proficient in both Thieves' Tools and Sleight of Hand, you roll a d20, add your Dexterity modifier and your Proficiency Bonus for your Sleight of Hand and your Proficiency Bonus again for using Thieves' Tools.
Guidance must be used pre-emptively on skill checks that reasonably can be expected to occur. In other words, you may not continuously cast Guidance in order to always be prepared to boost a skill check roll. The skill check must also be of a nature that can be seen or known to be attempted. For instance, a skill check to determine a character's knowledge of a topic, such as a history or religion check, may not be boosted by Guidance. However, an active attempt to ascertain such knowledge may be boosted.
Mounted travel speed is proportional to the difference in movement speed per round compared to most medium sized humanoids (i.e. 30 ft.). Therefore, a riding horse with a movement speed of 60 ft. per round allows for double the regular travel speed in a day.
Alchemy and potion making: A character that is proficient in Alchemist's Supplies or Herbalism Kit may attempt to craft potions, poisons, oils and acids from various components using the tools. In general, Alchemist's Supplies lends itself towards arcana-based products and Herbalism Kit lends itself towards nature- and medicine-based products. You may learn recipes by researching books, examining existing potions or experimenting with ingredients. Potions of Healing are crafted using the rules from XGtE.
